“With Covid-19 to Post Covid-19, how future leaders could make social reform and innovation?”

On September 21, Japan Future Leaders School invited former Malaysian Prime Minister Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad as a guest speaker, and participants listened to the lecture “With Covid-19 to Post Covid-19, how future leaders could make social reform and innovation.” Around 300 high school students across Asia joined this lecture.

In his lecture, Dr. Mahathir emphasized the current world was borderless: one planet; ”We’re all connected now.”
For instance, fighting climate change is vital. We need to be responsible for the world, the earth, as well as our own country. We need to accept rules and restrictions to avoid infections and stop pandemics. Dr. Mahathir also said that war was not a solution to settle disputes. Winners of the war do not gain anything. Instead, losers do learn from the lesson and earn more in the future. Negotiation, arbitration, and the court would be solutions to settle disputes. New technologies would help us solve challenges.
Dr. Mahathir’s lecture was fascinating and inspiring. In the Q&A session, many students raised their hands and asked questions to Dr. Mahathir. It was a once in a lifetime opportunity for all participants.
